Bridalveil Dogwood, Yosemite
I took this balanced on a teetering log in the rain, waiting for a break in the wind. It was a planned shot that actually worked out. Perhaps calling it an imagined shot would be more accurate. In this case I knew exactly what I wanted but had to walk around a bit (and perform a few gymnastics) to find it.
It doesn't take much scrutiny of my photographs to see that I like a close foreground subject with a background focused just enough to be recognized. I like the way these compositions hold the eye on the primary subject, and allow the background serve only as ambiance, much the way rhythm serves the melody in a musical composition. |
