Grand Canyon Photo Workshops

Extraordinary Photography Workshops, Tours, and Training in the Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon Monsoon on the North and South Rims with Gary Hart and Don Smith

To maximize the photo opportunities, this workshop will be split between the Grand Canyon's South and North Rims. And to make things as simple as possible for you, your workshop fee includes four nights of private lodging (no roommate unless you opt to share with a friend or loved one)—two nights at the Red Feather Lodge near the South Rim, and two nights at Grand Canyon Lodge right on the North Rim.

Grand Canyon Raft Trip for Photographers with Gary Hart

See the Grand Canyon as you've never seen it, photograph it as only a few can. On this trip we'll spend six days on the river, starting at Lee's Ferry and finishing at Whitmore Wash, 187 miles downstream. Our guides will do their best get us in position to photograph the Grand Canyon's many waterfalls, slot canyons, colorful geology in the best light. We'll also enjoy moonless nights, which will put the Milky Way and more stars than you've ever seen in your life on center stage. The 2017 raft trip is now open.

What makes these photo workshops special?

In the Grand Canyon Monsoon photo workshops you'll photograph all of the Grand Canyon's extraordinary grandeur during the heart of the annual Southwest monsoon season. Gary and Don have been photographing the Grand Canyon for many years, in all conditions. Lightning, rainbows, dramatic clouds—while it's impossible to predict what the group will encounter, Gary and Don's knowledge and experience will get you in the best place, at the best time, for whatever Mother Nature nature delivers. Conditions permitting, you'll also enjoy at least one night photography session. Not only do Gary and Don know what they're doing, they love what they do. Put simply, their goal is to ensure that you get the best images possible, and to make you a better photographer. You'll benefit from a small group and their expert training. (You’ll also meet great people and have a lot of fun.)

On the raft trip we'll be the beneficiaries the Western River Expedition's 50 years of rafting experience. Gary will coordinate stops and campsites with the guides to ensure the best photography possible. Special accommodations will be made for your camera gear, keeping your giving your SLR, lenses, and tripod safe and dry while still allowing easy access throughout the day.
