2012 Color and Autumn Moon, October 25-28

2012 Autumn in Yosemite Photography Workshop

Color and Autumn Moon

October 25-28, 2012

See for yourself why autumn is a Yosemite photographer’s wonderland. Not only does the season's low water mean low crowds, it also means great reflections and easy access to locations inaccessible in the park’s high snow and water months. Not only does this workshop's October date fall in the color window for Yosemite’s deciduous trees, I've also timed it to coincide with a full moon that will rise above Half Dome at sunset. And autumn is when the clouds return from their summer hiatus, adding character and drama to the sky, and sometimes even dusting Half Dome and El Capitan with snow.

Details

What: In the Fall Color and Reflections photography workshop we'll photograph all of Yosemite's classic views, find trees decked with fall color, and capture reflections only possible in fall. With misty mornings, crisp reflections, and carpets of red and gold, Yosemite in autumn is ideal for “three dimensional” images that lead the eye from intimate foreground to the always dramatic granite backdrop. (And we'll still get our waterfall fix—both Vernal and Nevada Falls will have water, and most years Bridalveil Fall flows year-round.) Weather permitting, we'll photograph a full moon rising behind Half Dome, and Yosemite's granite monoliths illuminated by moonlight. And unless we have an early storm, we won't be too late to visit Yosemite's high country (Olmsted Point, Tenaya Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, Glacier Point, and Sentinel Dome).

In all my workshops the emphasis is on getting out and shooting, so we'll spend lots of time exploring each scene. I’ll take you to all the famous places, and many hidden, rarely photographed spots. My assistant photographer and I are always available for training in the field, and there will be time for Photoshop and photography classroom training, and two image review sessions.
